Freddie Aguilar on staying as an original artist

freddieFreddie Aguilar’s statement about Charice Pempengco, Arnel Pineda and Gary Valenciano can be disheartening, but true. In an interview, the folk musician said Charice and Arnel Pineda prove that Filipinos are “monkeys,” and that Garry Valenciano will not become popular if he will not be original in his work.

While Freddie may be right in his words, it is too much for him to say the word “monkeys,” because not all Filipinos are. But who can blame him. He is entitled to voice his opinion. Nobody can blame Charice and Arnel either. They have the right to manage their own affairs.

It is of public knowledge that Charices’ family was in a really bad financial shape. Is that what drove her? Absolutely. It can be recalled that she started off joining singing competitions to raise money for the family. Money, of course, played a major role in her decisions.

While Aguilar statements may be harsh, it can be an eye opener to those aspiring ones.
