Cherry Pie Picache shares acting views

During a press conference for ABS-CBN’s latest TV series ‘Tayong Dalawa’, Cherry Pie Picache shares some of her views about acting. Being one of the country’s top actresses, it was surprising to know that she sometimes use Vicks Vaporub for scenes that require her to cry. Cherry Pie justifies saying, “We are not machines. There are days that are difficult. Mag-isang phone call lang, tapos kailangan ng tears. Hindi mo na ita-trabaho ‘yun, especially when you’re shooting 40 sequences a day.”

Cherry Pie disclosed that for TV soaps, she and her costars have to work 24 hours straight sometimes and wished that the working hours will be managed well so the station can get the best of what the actors and production people can do. “Ano pa ang maibibigay mo at 6 in the morning? As much as we try to give it our all, kung ano ang lalabas, ‘yun na lang talaga.”

She reveals that she prefers doing rehearsal when doing a scene. “Konting takes because, for an actor, the best take is almost always the first one, kasi ‘yun ang pinaka-raw,” Cherry Pie said. She shares that she once had to do 16 takes for the same sequence, and could not understand why.

For a scene like slapping Helen Gamboa in ‘Tayong Dalawa’, Cherry Pie said that it took her 3 takes to do the scene. “Mahirap, kasi si Tita Helen ‘yan. Baka magalit si Tito Sen (Tito Sotto),” Pie laughs. She makes sure that they rehearse the scene carefully so as not to hurt Helen that much.

Cherry Pie is said to have slapped a number of big-name stars on screen such as the likes of Susan Roces, Gloria Romero and Maricel Soriano. However, she said that she’s more careful in delivering her punches with more experienced actors, but with young stars she delivers it differently. “I really give it to them. Wala ng sabi-sabi pa. Mas effective sa kanila ‘yun. It’s their baptism of fire.”

While used to delivering punches to actors, Pie is not immune to not getting one herself. She gets hit by Agot Isidro in ‘Tayong Dalawa’. “Ang tindi, hindi ako sanay,” Pie shares. One of the strongest hit she got was from Maricel Soriano where Pie said, “Nahilo ako! I saw stars,” she recalles.
